Meet VAV
VAV is an Art based Social enterprise that was founded March 2014 in the University of Ibadan. It got registered as a student organization of the above stated university on the 9th July, 2015. VAV is focused on the actualization of a world where those with artistic talents in the visual arts would be forces behind innovative and entrepreneurial ideas that would further develop any society or community they are found in; there by promoting the values in VISUAL ART.
Message from the Director
The day (2014) my fellow friend and Co-founder(Ayoade Oreoluwa) wrote down the vision I was trying to pass to her, which I initially didn't know how to clearly articulate in written words; was the day I was certain of our purpose as an organisation. Some people have told me that our organisation wouldn't be relevant if situated in an art institution which really amuses me. They say these things because they haven't fully understood us. Our vision is beyond just being a "visual art skill acquisition" organisation instead, we are harnessing the best qualities of an individual through art.
What I am saying is that this organisation is a platform to refine artists into men of vision(talent plus persons).The world claims art is the bedrock of creativity and the purpose of creativity is to make humanity/human living better. what we do in this organisation is make the artists attain this expectation. We are taking artists with the artistic talent and their other untapped potentials, and polishing them by providing skills (like leadership,enterpreneural,tentative reasoning skills, problem solving skills etc) and opportunities. These opportunities range from artist being provided outlets to be a practical solution to societal problems - through community service/ art projects - to artists being shown openings or lawful ways of being financially independent
We strongly believe that not all persons with the artistic gift should be artists by proffession. That is why we encourage artists in other fields to use their artistic talent -creativity- and other skills/virtues promoted in the organization to make a significant difference in any field they are found. The renaissance was a period of enlightenment in various areas of the old European world. Particularly in art, it birthed an era of awakening and artists that innovated things in other fields....We in VAV embrace and portray the move of that period. That is why our motto is " revive the renaissance".
Our artists are encouraged to possess the "renaissance man" spirit. In other words they should be unique and make a difference in whatever they find to do(even those in other professions). In the future (hopefully nearest),we hope to support and fund innovative ideas from our artists and also promote contests or things that encourage practical development and advancement(especially economically and technologically) in any country the organization is situated. I would like to state that our vision is a continuous one. In others words, this organisation should and would Outlive our generation. It is a gradual step...this is just the beginning, we have a long way to go. Kindly ask us questions on anything that isn't clear about the organization. An email would suffice.
